Liveable City's Annual Snapshot
This past year highlighted the need for new ideas and policies in affordable housing, transportation, education, and economic development. On each issue, Liveable City worked with a wide range of individuals, community groups and policymakers to provide research, outreach, policy development and advocacy.
2007 Highlights
- Kicked off Imagining the Next City Speakers Forum with new urbanist visionary, Hank Dittmar, in partnership with UT Community & Regional Planning Program Center for Sustainable Development and LBJ School of Public Affairs Urban and State Affairs Program.
- Created new Advisory Council enlisting community leaders to broaden the conversation about Austin's future.
- Helped pass Austin's Big Box Ordinance to ensure a community voice on major retail developments.
- Promoted stronger education and family policies through research briefs and service on City and AISD task forces.
- Provided support to community initiatives including HousingWorks, Save Town Lake, and Create Austin among others.
