What is the purpose of Liveable City?
The group
is creating new community organization working for solutions
to improve quality of life for all of Austin.
Liveable
City is an inclusive network of individuals working together
to create a community consensus to promote policies that address
the long term social, environmental and economic needs of
the people of Austin.
The group
will help create new community models that focus on the interconnected
relationships among growth issues such transportation, housing,
environment, affordability, neighborhoods, culture and the
economy in an equitable and sustainable manner.
Liveable
City will collect and disseminate information and questions
to educate, inform, and empower citizen advocacy to improve
our quality of life.

Why is the group starting now?
In the
past, the primary debates in Austin concerned the economy
versus the environment. The new reality is that there exists
a broad consensus around Austin's quality of life values and
priorities for the next five years. The group intends to facilitate
communication leading to more effective policies.

What is the composition of the Board of Directors?
Liveable
City has a multi-issue, intergrated approach to community
wide issues. The board is composed of experienced community
activists whose skills represent neighborhood, business, academic,
political and environmental perspectives.

What are Liveable City's priorities for the next year?
For the
remainder of 2002, the group will focus on discussing community
concerns and conducting a wide range of research. In 2003,
the group will begin to advocate for specific policies.

Liveable City is a 501-3C non profit.
7. What is the difference between liveable City and the Central Texas Visioning Project?
The CTRVP
is a regional, five county planning effort, focused on land
use and transportation issues. Liveable City is an advocacy
group focused on a broad range of quality of life issues in
Austin.
8.
Who is funding Liveable City?
The Board
of Directors has provided the initial start up funding. Additional
funding from the community as well as from grants and foundations
is expected.
